“Next year will definitely (be present in India),” Musk said via his official Twitter account. He wrote it in response to a tweet from someone with a photo of a T-shirt that read, “India wants Tesla”.

“Thank you for waiting,” Musk continued.

Tesla’s entry is predicted to occur when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will increasingly focus on promoting the use and manufacture of electric vehicles in the country.

India’s auto sector, already struggling with slowing demand last year, has been hard hit by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and several carmakers are seeking government support to boost sales.

Musk commented last year about bringing Tesla to India, in response to someone on Twitter asking “What about India, sir?”

“It would be great if we could be there this year. If not, definitely in the next year! ” he said in March 2019.
